FALL WORKDAY 2004

DATE: 6 NOVEMBER 2004

TIME:  8:00am-6:00pm

LOCATION: Redford Cemetery

The November 6, 2004, workday was the first major grounds maintenance project in some time.  It was attended by a number of volunteers, many of whom had no direct affiliation with Redford Cemetery or the Redford Cemetery Association.  In the course of a full day of work, punctuated only by a brief lunch break, the entire south fence line was cleared of brush, unwanted trees, vines, and debris.  Much of this material was fed through a wood chipper and rendered into woodchips.  These woodchips were subsequently distributed along the fence line.

Additionally, early in the day a bus load of volunteers from Redford Union High School’s JROTC program arrived and assisted in removing a substantial amount of debris, manmade and natural, from the perimeter of the cemetery.  They brought the material up to the main driveway for disposal.  The manmade debris was bagged and hauled out.  The natural debris that still needed to be chipped when the sun started to go down was left behind in piles to be disposed of at a later time.
