DECORATION DAY 2008

Our Spring Workday 2008 was to be held on the same day as Decoration Day this year, but our workday was moved to Sunday, May 4th, at the last minute. Decoration Day went on as scheduled on May 17th, with families coming out throughout the day to plant flowers, tidy up, and to socialize.

Our main spring workday consisted of a mix of tasks: chipping brush, and preliminary soil restoration work - spreading compost in the old section, reseeding, fertilizing, and grading. Our soil restoration work was facilitated by the generous donations of material from ACO Hardware, Inc., including grass seed, top soil, and Scott's Starter Fertilizer. A crew of a dozen or so folks made quick work of a lot of labor, and the results were visible immediately!

Additionally, thirty-some trees were planted on the property, including a mix of flowering ornamental trees along the south fence and a mix of poplars along the north fence and in the northeast quadrant of the property. Best wishes for their successful first season in the face of what has proved to be a very dry summer!
