Stump Removal!

After many years of having an unsightly stump sitting in the middle of the cemetery, we finally got the manpower and sawpower necessary to remove it!  Many thanks to Kris for coming down from Lansing and putting his freshly rebuilt Stihl 066 to good use!

After we cut the stump up we hauled the pieces up to the main driveway and posted them, along with the other wood generated at the workday, on the Motorcity Freecycle group's message board as an OFFER: Firewood.  By the next day much of the wood had already been taken!

Kris cutting the base of the stump.

Quartering the stump.

Attacking the stump with much vigor.

Trimming the stump so it can be pried apart.

The stump, partially cut and pulled apart.

Mike cuts the stump pieces into manageable chunks.

Kris does a final flush-cut on the stump, getting it as close to the ground as possible.

Brandon, Allen, and Kris confer on the success of the stump removal.
