TREE PLANTING DAY 2007
DATE: 17 NOVEMBER 2007
TIME: 2:00pm-6:00pm
LOCATION: Redford Cemetery
Unlike most of our formal,
scheduled workdays, this was an impromptu event. As we had
ordered a few dozen bareroot trees, and delivery is anticipated mid-November, we
had to play this one by ear.
The trees arrived and were promptly planted, each one receiving a large hole and
generous soil amendment with compost, as our soil is incredibly sandy and not
particularly suited to young trees getting a good start all on their own.
The trees planted included Red, Silver, and Sugar maples; London Planetree;
Lacebark Elm; European Beach, and Tuliptrees. We planted sixteen trees in
all, but the inclement weather prevented us from getting them all planted - it
was raining and sleeting for much of the afternoon. The remaining trees
were over-wintered in pots, and will be planted in the spring of 2008.
